Galapagos Islands
Aboard Silversea
On our journeys to remote and exotic destinations, we’ve been fortunate to witness some remarkable Wonders of the World, both natural and man made, but nothing compares to what mother nature has created on the Galapagos Islands. The archipelago of islands belonging to Ecuador is barren, volcanic and isolated. The ongoing seismic and volcanic activity continues to form the somewhat 120 islands, which have produced an environment consisting of crater lakes and lava tubes. What is more fascinating is the creation of the most unique wildlife that only exists in this isolated part of the world. The Galapagos Islands is truly a living museum. Listed as a World Heritage Park in 1978, the islands offer spectacular wildlife encounters including the land iguana, giant tortoise, finches that inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, frigate birds and the popular blue footed booby.
