Chile and Argentian are unique and diverse countries, with landscapes spanning from beachside resorts to snow capped mountian ranges. The Captain's Choice Tour invites you to visit these magnificent countries aboard the luxurious, intimate 'Silver Cloud'. We will visit the Chilean Lake Distric and cruise through the narrow waterways of the Chilean Fjords, with scenes to rival Alaska and Norway. We tour into the renowned Torres del Paine National Park in southern Patagonia, cruise past the glaciers of the Beagle Channel to the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia, and ride the narrow gauge steam train to the 'End of the World'. We emulate sailors of the past as we sail 'around the Horn', see 300,000 penguins on the beach at Punta Tombo, visit the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo and conclude our cruise in the vibrant Latin city of Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires, is a vibrant, lively European style city, often regarded as a blend of Paris, Rome and Madrid. This morning we will tour this elegant city including the Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada, the beautiful Colon Theatre, the famous ornate tombs in Recoleta Cemetery and the colourful La Boca District. This evening we will attend a spectacular Tango Show and Argentine Steak Dinner.

This morning we drive to Tigre for a cruise on the canals of the Tigre Delta including lunch. Join ‘Silver Whisper’ mid afternoon. Enjoy your first glass of French Champagne and settle into your spacious suite before sailing. Savour the first of many delicious meals in The Restaurant this evening.

The small Uruguayan capital of Montevideo is home to nearly half of the country’s population. This afternoon we take a sightseeing tour of the city including the Legislative Palace.

There are many activities onboard during our days at sea, perhaps take a Spanish class, enjoy a wine tasting or cooking demonstration, attend a lecture on the region or partake in numerous other activities. Choose from a buffet breakfast or lunch in the La Terrazza or elegant table service in The Restaurant.

Puerto Madryn is the port for the Chubut Province, comprising much of Patagonia and founded by Welsh settlers 120 years ago. Our day tour drives south to Punta Tombo to witness a truly dramatic spectacle – around 300,000 Magellan penguins on the beach diving, fishing and disappearing into their burrows. It is the largest penguin colony outside Antarctica – be sure to bring your camera.

Stanley, capital of the Falklands, is home to a variety of Gentoo, King and Macaroni penguins. We take a tour of this tiny island passing by the Government House, 1914 Battle Memorial and Christ Church Cathedral. We also visit the small but fascinating Britannia House Museum. Following our museum visit we journey to Mike Butcher’s Yard to see a small whaling display and then proceed to the Nutt Cartmell Cottage. A visit inside the cottage offers some insight into the earlier life of the residents of the Falklands.

‘Silver Whisper’ docks in Punta Arenas for two days. Punta Arenas is the bustling centre of one of the world’s largest sheep farming areas and a major port serving a huge fishing fleet and Antarctica research vessels. The city centre features impressive mansions dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries with a population of over 100,000. For us, it is the gateway to one of the great natural wonders of South America – Torres del Paine National Park. Enjoy a day at leisure in Punta Arenas or book (additional cost) a day trip by air to Torres del Paine National Park. Declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1978, the Park offers incredible vistas. Three huge towering peaks give the Park its name. It is dotted with incredible blue lakes and contains a rich landscape of varied vegetation, stunning mountains, huge glaciers, ancient forests and deep caves.

A day at the southernmost city in the world, the capital of Argentine Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia. The city is dominated by the 1,500m peaks of the Martial Range. This morning we visit the Tierra del Fuego National Park, a rugged wilderness of dramatic beauty. We ride the narrow gauge steam train to the ‘End of The World’, stopping to visit the Macarena Waterfall while passing through superb mountain scenery. Later today we take a catamaran trip to Sea Wolves Island, home to sea lions, seals and sea birds located in the Beagle Channel. We enjoy lunch aboard the catamaran and return to the ship mid afternoon.

We cruise through narrow waterways, fjords and estuaries offering stunning scenery before anchoring at the entrance to the lagoon. We transfer to smaller boats and sail through the narrow entrance of the 42km long Laguna San Rafael, which is surrounded by green clad mountains and dominated by the majestic San Rafael Glacier – a blue wall of jagged ice. Enjoy a close up view of this awesome ice mass and watch huge chunks of ice breaking off and thundering into the water. Cruise around the lagoon, viewing the small icebergs and chunks of ice that offer a fascinating kaleidoscope of incredible colours of translucent blues and greens. This evening you are invited to join a spectacular New Year’s Eve dinner.

Puerto Montt is located within the Chilean Lake District. This morning we will tour into the Lake District, visiting Frutillar which is on the shores of Llanquihue Lake, South America’s third largest lake. Across the lake rises the perfect cone of the Osorno Volcano, its peak covered in snow for most of the year. The small German style village was established in 1856 as a port for German settlers living around the lake. We visit the German Colonisation Museum, depicting life in the 19th century, and stop at the small fishing port of Angelmo, with stalls offering a variety of regional handicrafts and souvenirs. This afternoon you may like to stroll the streets and flowered squares of Puerto Montt.

The hilly city of Valparaiso is our final port of call. We take a brief sightseeing tour before enjoying the scenic drive to Santiago. Enroute to the Chilean capital we stop for lunch at the garden city of Vina del Mar. Santiago is a pleasant blend of colonial and modern architecture dominated by the immense wall of the Andes, rising 5,485m. The huge mountains are only a short distance from the city and form a dramatic backdrop to the city’s 18th century buildings. This evening enjoy our Farewell Dinner at an excellent local restaurant.

This morning our tour will include La Moneda Palace, the Cathedral, Santa Lucia Hill in the centre of Santiago, and the fashionable Providencia residential and shopping area. We then travel up San Cristobal Hill for an overview of the city and the surrounding Andes, a dramatic sight. We will lunch at a famous seafood restaurant in the historic Central Market. This afternoon and evening you may prefer to relax or explore this charming city independently. Spend the last night in Santiago before flying home the following morning.
